Creola Thomas
Creola Thomas writes from the perspective of a child growing up in the heart of the housing projects. Borderline artistic, she struggled to feel “normal” throughout much of her developmental years. What sustained her was her imagination—the stories she told herself, and later, the ones she shared with others.
As a child, she captivated neighborhood kids by spinning vivid tales, often convincing them she had traveled to other worlds through hidden portals tucked away in secret places around the hood. After high school, she attended Columbia College, where learning the craft of writing opened windows to new worlds and introduced her to a creative community where she could finally belong.
Today, she writes as naturally as she breathes, pouring out everything her imagination can hold. She is a mother, a teacher, and an advocate for children in foster care. In her spare time, she enjoys sitting quietly with a good book and a hot cup of coffee, often marveling at how a little girl from the depths of poverty still carries such a deep love and passion for writing.
